
The Whitefish and Columbia Falls baseball teams would face-off on the diamond, Friday night, in the first meeting between rivals this spring.
It was a cold, frigid evening as Sapa-Johnsrud field as Whitefish and C-Falls notched another game in this great rivalry.
The Cats would outduel Whitefish, 9-8, in an instant thriller Friday night.
The Wildcats would open up the game with a 2-0 lead, scoring on an error and bringing home another run on a Sac Fly RBI.
The Cats tacked on four more in the bottom of the 3rd and led 6-0 through 3 innings of play. 3 of the 6 runs they scored in the frame came from bases loaded walks. C-Falls scored their first six runs of the game without collecting a single hit.
The Dawgs would storm back in the top of the 4th scoring 5 runs in the frame. Whitefish notched 6 hits in a row to begin the inning highlighted by a 2RBI double by Luke Dalen. The Dawgs would trail 6-5 at that point.
Whitefish would take the lead in the 5th thanks to a Calvin Eisenbarth 2RBI single and the Dawgs led 8-6 heading into the bottom of the 5th.
The Cats weren't done. The Cats didn't collect their first hit of the game until the bottom of the 5th when Jory Hill opened the bottom half of the inning with a triple. 3 singles later and 3 runs scored and C-Falls took back the lead 9-8.
Reggie Sapa took to the hill and closed out the game, pitching the final 2 innings and struck out 5, to earn the save as C-Falls held on for the late game victory.
Jett Pitts got the start for C-Falls and went 4 innings, gave up 5 runs (4 earned) on 6 hits, struck out 6 and walked 2.
Treyson Murphy got the win, going just 1 inning pitched while giving up 3 runs on 2 hits.
Whitefish's Tait Orme was tacked with the loss. In relief, Orme pitched 2.1 innings, gave up 3 runs (2 earned), on 4 hits and struck out 3.
Reyd Boyer got the start for the Dawgs and pitched 2.2 innings. He gave up 6 runs (4 earned) and walked 9.

With the win C-Falls opens the season 2-0 in conference play. Whitefish falls to 1-1 in league play.
